Marriage is when two people who are deeply in love come together and spend the rest of their lives with each other. Marriage should not be forced upon someone at a young age. After learning more about forced marriages and watching the video “Child Brides,” I felt angry and confused. Women’s rights have come a long way throughout history. However, it is evident that in some parts of the world, many still don’t fully agree that men and women should be treated equally. In places like Africa, Latin America, and South Asia, young girls are being forced into marriage at ages as young as 3. Many cry and plead their parents to stop this horrible action that is occurring, but many are just too young to even understand. I knew before watching the video …show more content…

They leave their hometown to go live with a complete stranger. It states in A Thousand Splendid Suns “‘Are you ever going to unpack that thing?’ he said, motioning with his head toward her suitcase. Is that understood?’” This quote showed that the character Mariam wasn’t comfortable with her new life yet, and this is why she wasn’t ready to unpack her suitcase. The last reason why child marriage is a bad practice is because they get abused. The women don’t fight back and stand up for themselves. In A Thousand Splendid Suns it stated “His powerful hands clasped her jaw. He shoved two fingers into her mouth and pried it open, then forced the cold , hard pebbles into it….Through the mouthful of grit and pebbles, Mariam mumbled a plea. Tears were leaking out of the corners of her eyes. ‘CHEW!’ Rasheed said….Mariam chewed. Something in the back of her mouth cracked. ‘Good,’ Rasheed said… ‘Now you know what your rice tastes like.’” Nobody should ever be abused and treated this
