The term soldiers are used in the subject of war when most people think of soldiers they think men and women fighting for their rights and freedom or at least in America. But in third world countries and places like Africa, the word soldier is used to describe little boys and girls being taken advantage of. Those kids that are used as “soldiers”, they are compelled to commit crimes for their commanders, but their commanders are not just making kids fight some of these commanders marry 13-year-old girls and rape them until their commanders don’t need them anymore. When these child soldiers are released back into the world whether it is by escaping or they have been released by their commanders the government is wondering if they should be prosecuted …show more content…

According to Popovski, V in their article “ Child soldiers: victims or perpetrators?” (2009) it says “ more often than not children have no say in whether they list or not and once they are recruited the children become brainwashed through the use of drugs and alcohol and the drugs and alcohol make the children become more compliant enabling them to commit atrocities which they would never have before.” (2) this just shows how little choice the child soldiers have and yes some of them do volunteer but when they volunteered they realize that it was the wrong choice. When they volunteer they thought that it would be a better life because they will get food, shelter, and possibly some sort of family figure or guardian but they realize that it was the wrong choice because it’s an even a worse life than what they had. According to debates in their article “Child soldiers should be prosecuted”(1), it says”Child soldiers are not morally responsible for their actions. Children are often forced into fighting and have little choice over whether or not they enlist. After that, they are following orders of adults rather than acting of their own free will. The recruiters of child soldiers also use drugs and alcohol to make children more compliant and to enable them to commit acts they would not ordinarily commit. Child soldiers should therefore not be held responsible for actions they were forced to commit and had little understanding of.” This just shows how the commanders are the ones who are making them do these things they have no choice on whether or not they fight, half the time the commanders are threatening their lives which is illegal and just one reason the commanders should be prosecuted. Not only that but According to Alexandra Zavis in her article “Childhood cast adrift by war”(2014), it states “ The colonel gave her a new name, Kadija. And he raped her repeatedly.”(2) this is just one of the many crimes that the Colonels have committed and that is the reason why I think children should not be
