Driverless Cars Would you buy a self-driving car? Many people have mixed emotions about self-driving cars. Some will say they are dangerous and some will say they have good to them. Ask yourself would they be effective for the elderly, the blind, or the disables who are not capable of driving? If you knew someone in the position who cannot drive would you suggest to them maybe about getting a driverless vehicle. On the other hand, self-driving vehicles could have their own down falls. Would you trust riding in a driverless car or letting your love ones in a driverless car. After all it is in the name the car literally drives its self. You never know “driverless cars will be here before you know it” (qtd by Thompson) “Several automakers have already showed off their self-driving car technology and many cars companies aim to roll our production vehicles with driverless capabilities by 2020”(Thompson). It will be very interesting to see which company can be the first to put a driverless car into production. “Industry experts expect full autonomous vehicles to follow suit just a few years later” (Thompson). “There is a possibility that self-driving cars could make the roads safer. In the US, more than 30,000 people die in traffic-related deaths every year” (sic) (Thompson). “Self-driving cars could help reduce the number of accidents helping to save thousands of lives”(Thompson). “In fact, if 90% of cars on American roads were autonomous, the number of accidents would fall from 6 million a year to 1.3 million”(Thompson). Deaths would fall from 33,000 to 11,300, according to a study by the Eno Centre for Transportation. Self-driving cars could also lower the amount of fuel consumed in a year. “Because cars will be automated, there will be less chance of accidents caused by human error, leading to less traffic congestion” (qtd by Thompson). And because traffic congestion is also expected to decrease, it will likely take less time to get to your destination, which will also help create more valuable time for other things besides commuting. This could give travelers more time for business work or allow them to read a book to pass
