While researching euthanasia of dogs, I have found articles and data on how it can affect dogs and humans. Also, other alternative methods that have been used, explain how some methods work and are successful and other methods does not work and weren’t successful. My goal in this paper to show that euthanasia is a problem and we need to spend resources towards this problem. When it comes to euthanizing dogs or any animals, it’s a hard decision to make. Not only for the owners but also the shelter workers are the ones actually have to execute the euthanizing. No one really thinks about the emotional effect it has on the shelter workers. One employee complained, “I am tired of being responsible for society carelessness” (White). Another one employee expressed, “I've had breakdowns in the euthanasia room because I feel so helpless” (White). Some employees have even gone to a counseling session and others have a more difficult time dealing with the emotions side effect. This article has a perspective of the shelter workers and how euthanasia dog makes them feel really helpless because they don’t have no authority or control over this part of their job. Also, the feeling of carelessness because society not being responsible so the workers has to pick up that responsibility. Which makes it unfair because the workers had no part in how the dog got to the kennels. Within this article it stated how such choices are often based on how much room is left in the kennel or how likely an animal is to be adopted. Workers have also become depressed and some even turn to drug and alcohol abuse from the distressing result of doing euthanasia for dogs.
