In order to fund schools, free public college is a problem because it leads to a tax increase. Government spending can be paid for by government borrowing or taxes. The tax increase would cause distress within families of all earnings, due to the availability of take-home funds becoming a smaller amount. Some may insist that free public college is not a problem because it leads to less financial burden for the student or their family. One may not have to give payment to the college up front, but one would have to pay for it through taxes. Additionally, if one did not attend college, they would have to pay for someone else's college through taxes.
