"If arming more people meant that we would be safer, we would be the safest country on earth,” by Shannon Watts, a gun violence prevention activist. As gun-related deaths are happening each year, there has to be a cause for it, gun violence. According to APHA, firearms are responsible for “more than 38,000 people and cause nearly 85,000 injuries each year.” This is essential to know because guns are surprisingly mostly used to cause violence against others. This not only shows how the suspect committed a hate crime, but also shows how people can take advantage of having the right to own a gun and use it for ill intentions. This shooting could have also been easily avoided if the United States had regulated stricter gun control laws since it would be harder for people to purchase guns. According to CBS News, there was a mass shooting at a Buffalo supermarket, in which “ten people were killed and three more were wounded” and the suspect involved was “ charged with murder in what officials are calling a hate crime and a case of racially motivated violent extremism” (Albert). After the shooting, the public safety in the community is now at risk. This was a hate crime that was racially motivated and was able to be successful because the suspect was able to legally buy and own a
