In the wake of all the news going around about the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting, the topic of gun control related to mental health has come about. Recently, on February 14, 2018, a former student of the school, Nikolas Cruz, opened fire on the students as they were filing out of the school during a fake fire drill. Cruz is presumed to have had some type of mental illness. This event, along with the other major mass shooting events across America, could possibly have been avoided if the Congress made access to mental health facilities more readily available throughout America. Many people believe that people who suffer from mental illnesses are the main reason such violent and devastating events like mass shootings happen.
In America, today, violence seems to be around every corner. With mass shootings on the rise, ordinary and innocent people are victimized. We watch brutality on the news, read about it on twitter, and even witness some atrocities in our own neighborhoods. When the bullets start flying, what is an average person to do?
