Over recent decades, gun violence has risen to sheer panic in day-to-day life. From mass shootings to homicides, gun violence is becoming out of control as it spreads to festivals, workplaces, and schools. Gun violence should be a priority in the United States, but in order to see changes guns are going to need more restrictions. According to Eugenio Weigend, whose research focuses on preventing gun violence, within two years data reports that gun violence has increased by 28%. The government should recognize how gun violence is affecting everyday life and should pursue stopping it. In the United States there needs to be more gun restrictions, due to the concern for safety, and physical and mental health.

Those who are exposed to gun violence deal with it in a variety of ways. They may seek help from a therapist or others to help deal with trauma, but help is not always available to those so they may experience forms of anxiety or self-harm. A website, HeatlhGuide.Org, whose mission is to provide insight into mental health proclaimed, “Symptoms like panic attacks and suicidal ideation were reported…” (Reid). Any type of exposure to gun violence creates a significant amount of damage to one. While acknowledging the threat this creates to the health of children and adults, it should be known to feel sympathy for those going through it. At any age, mental health problems are a major concern. Some may argue that there is help that can be sought out, but mental health is often pushed away. So by recognizing this the government should once again realize that there needs to be something done to prevent that from happening. While it is true that the second amendment was created for the right to own a gun, it gave others the idea to own multiple firearms. Individuals are able to get ahold of these dangerous and advanced weapons, which makes it unequal to the second amendment. As well as that, the second amendment is outdated and was created when these so-called “firearms” were pistols and nothing as intense as what is being used today. One cannot deny that their right to own a gun is essential and serves as protection. For those who mention guns as a form of self-defense, they should also be applied.
