After the devastating school shootings that have taken place across the United States people have began to look towards guns as the main cause. One solution being considered is to arm staff members in school, mainly teachers, to protect their classrooms from deadly acts of violence. Different sources depict this information in their own ways, be it factual or sensational. Three articles that depict factual information of arming teachers are: The New York Times (About 3 in 4 Teachers Oppose Arming School Staff, Survey Find), The Washington Post (Schools don’t need guns because ‘it’s mostly ladies that’s teaching’ Alabama lawmaker says, and Time (Black Children Will Be the Victims of Armed Teachers). These three sources are all credible and non-manipulative with the information given as they are all opposed to having firearms in schools. …show more content…

The first claim they make is found in the title, “About 3 in 4 teachers oppose arming school staff”. The author claims that a survey concludes 73 percent of the 500 teachers polled oppose arming staff members, while 20 percent support the idea. A survey by the same source was also given to the public which revealed that 56 percent of the public are against the idea which still happens to be majority of the poll. While only 20 percent of teachers agree with arming staff members, only 16 percent of staff members polled said they would apply to carry a gun and more than 80 percent would not apply. The last poll in this article states that more than 90 percent of the public supports an increase of training for police which involves preparing for an active shooter.
