Holocaust Research Paper Hana Brady’s life was changed considerably before and after she was arrested because of Hitler’s want to rid Europe of the Jewish race. Hana Brady was born in Nove Mesto, Czechoslovakia, on May 16, 1931. She was the second child of Karel and Marketa Brady. She had one brother named Georg, who is now called George (Brady, Lara Hana). Her mother, Marketa, was known for her booming laugh and her father, Karel, was an avid athlete who loved to ski. This happy life was full of carefree laughter, trips to their Babička or Grandma in Prague, and their father’s magic tricks. Her mother was arrested in March 1941 soon after the arrival of the Nazis. She tried to soothe them with special treats but nothing worked (Levine, Karen, 43) After a few hours they were sent live with their Aunt and Uncle. On May 14, 1942, they received a summons to Trebic Deportation Center. They spent four days there then they were moved to Theresienstadt. They lived there for two years. During her time at Theresienstadt, she lived in L410, the barracks for girls and women (Levine, Karen, 61). She never learned about her parents’ fate. Although her and her brother were seperated constantly, they did manage to meet a few times. Her brother was sent to Auschwitz in September 1944. She was devastated, but a month later she was on the list for Auschwitz. On October 23, 1944 she reached Auschwitz. She was marched down to the gas chambers. The Nazis placed a chemical called Zyklon B in the chamber. The gas took 15 minutes to kill (Lisciotto, Carmelo, and Chris Webb). In this awful way, Hana died. Hana’s suitcase was preserved was preserved in the Auschwitz museum, (Brady, Lara Hana) then on to the Tokyo Holocaust Museum on request of Fumiko Ishioka.
