Kyle Lee- In favor of allowing purchase Access and rising cost of healthcare are major issues of concern for the American public. Since the beginning of the Obama administration, there has been calls from both the public and the government to drive a major health reform aimed at make healthcare affordable and accessible. As an issue affecting the whole political spectrum, there are many high-stake issues that necessitate a policy debate. One of these issues is the ability to purchase a health insurance plan across state borders. Historically, insurance companies were protected from interstate competition by the McCarren-Ferguson Act, established in 1945. Under the approval of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services in the ACA Section 1333, states can sell health insurance products that are still subject to coverage requirement and cost-sharing requirements (PPACA). Although the inter-state policy requires permission from the HHS, we can argue that the deregulation of health insurance across state borders will create value to citizens and the insurance providers. From the citizen’s view, an individual will have more options to elect health plans that meet individual needs. Of course, the minimum limit would require essential benefits to be covered, but many individuals will benefit the move away from a community rating-based approach as consumers gain the ability to enter or exit a set of state …show more content…
