Did you know 40% of college females are into hooking up? This is stating that hooking up is becoming less of a rarity and more of a trend among almost half of female college students. Hooking up is the act of meeting an individual, usually a person you’ve never met, and starting a casual sex based relationship with that individual that is not public or romantic. It can be either a one-time thing (most well known as a one night stand) or a regular occurrence whenever the two feel like gathering for one night (Known as ‘friends with benefits.’) No matter how you categorize it hooking up is a disastrous trend for society due to the commonly negative causes and the harmful consequences. First of all, there was a recent study in Rhode Island done by the Huffington Post that is blaming hook up apps, such as Tinder, for the recent STD spike. Statistics show 75% of young men contracted syphilis due to hooking up using these applications or another form of social media to meet women for sex (Schumaker, 2015.) It is considered a high risk behavior to use any form of social media to arrange for meetings involving casual or anonymous sex. In my opinion hooking up is a terrible trend that is harmful to dating and society. Imagine a world where society no longer desires or observes dating, but every female in this society is willing to engage in casual or anonymous sex. This doesn’t sound like a problem to some people, but other individuals would deny and state considerations that this a disastrous direction for humanity.
