In 2015, Republican Presidential Candidate, Donald Trump, proposed drastic immigration changes. Including building a 30-50 foot wall along the Mexican border, he also proposed banning Muslims and banning immigration from certain countries. The questions regarding immigration stretches all the way back to 1787 when our constitution was written, and we still don't have a perfect answer. But one thing is certain: building a wall and cutting off immigration due to religious beliefs is a very bad idea for the American people and America as a country. While America should increase border protection, we also need to continue to allow individuals and their families immigrate legally to the United States and making the immigration process easier. …show more content…

Undoubtedly, one of the largest problems in the immigration system is many illegal immigrants currently overstaying their visas or having snuck into this country. The United States Immigration Services estimates roughly 11.4 million of these individuals currently reside in the United States of America as we speak. Thankfully, the United States government under the Obama administration has not sat around idly and done nothing as the vast majority of Republicans would argue. In fact, in 2014 there were 577,295 deportations from the U.S. Obama has had more deportations in his tenure than George W. Bush did in his eight years as President of the United States. Many politicians such as Hillary Clinton refuse to admit that illegal immigration is a problem. She actually supports open borders, to which Republican Presidential Candidate Donald J Trump replies, “if we don't have borders, then we don't have a country”. In this campaign season, one has to ask the question: “who is correct?” Well, I believe that the answer is neither, and at the same time both. Trump is correct in that our country needs borders and must stop illegal immigration, while Secretary Clinton is correct in the belief that we cannot build a wall and cut off all immigration. However, Mr. Trump is incorrect in the belief that we must build a giant wall and keep people out of the country based on religious views.
