The earth cannot support the lifestyle most of us are living, and we need to make major changes, however I do not believe that an island civilization is the solution.
Island civilization might seem like a good idea on paper, however, it is hard to say if it can actually work. I agree with you that humans need to change their current lifestyles in order to prevent the Earth's destruction. Many of us are killing the planet with the way we live our lives. However, I do not believe that these "island civilizations" are the solution. Humans are a selfish species, it is doubtful that many will give up their large homes and luxuries to live in these isolated "islands." The success of these island civilizations requires the entire population to cooperate, and it seems very difficult to acquire total cooperation on such a controversial idea.

For example, can encourage people to go vegan. Producing products such as meat and dairy have huge negative effects on the environment. It pollutes the air because cows produce large amounts of methane and tons of carbon dioxide is released when transporting these goods. Producing meat also wastes large amounts of fresh water. Also, land needs to be cleared in order to create space of livestock. If there is no longer a need for livestock, no one is cutting down trees for agriculture purposes. It is not the perfect solution, but it is a start.
