Adnan was put into jail for the murder of his ex-girlfriend Hae Min Lee. Adnan was convicted by his friend Jay’s testimony. Jay was Adnan’s friend since middle school. Jay lied in his interviews because he gave different stories to detectives and at the trials. Jay is lying, since his words do not match the cell phone log, Jay gives different witness accounts, and he lies the location of Hae’s body and the car. Jay’s statement is different than Jenn’s that who arrived first to Jenn’s house. Simpson writes that Jay mentions in his first interview that he arrived at 12:30 p.m. and Jenn arrived at 1:30 p.m. Then, Jenn’s statements do not line up with Jay’s, she claims that she arrived at 12:30 p.m., and Jay arrived at 1:30 p.m. (“Simpson”). These are two different stories that do not match with each other and shows someone did lied. Another fact, when Jay tells a big lie at the trial to fit his story with Jenn’s, He entirely tells a new story. Simpson writes, that Jay said, He went to Jenn’s house at around 1 p.m., but she was not home (“Simpson”). Jay and Mark who is Jenn’s brother went to the mall to for shopping. When Jay and Mark returned from shopping, Jenn was home. Jay denied from his statement at the trail. As was stated before, we see that Jay lied about places where he was when Adnan called him, where he actually saw Hae’s body first in his two interviews. It is unclear where Jay was from 12:30 to 3:30 until he gets a call from Adnan. According to what Jay said he was at Jenn’s house, but the timeline does not line up with Jenn’s timeline. Also, their stories do not match. He lied about where Hae’s car was ditched and if he helped Adnan to buried Hae’s body or not. He gave two different statements that how many shovels actually been used and where the shovels actually come from, either from his mother’s house or grandmother’s house. After all this, how did the detectives believe Jay’s story? It is always been true from decades about criminal justice system that when there is not enough evidence at the trail then one innocent gets sacrifice which in this case was
