The healthcare industry is one that spends billions of dollars each year, only to be set back 750 billion dollars by fraud and misuse (Faguet 53). Many people do not purchase health insurance due to its high cost; this led the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA), most commonly called the Affordable Care Act or Obamacare, to be signed into law. This bill requires people of all incomes to purchase medical insurance, or be fined, even if they can not afford it. Because the Affordable Care Act negatively impacts the economy, hospitals, doctors, and families, the bill should be taken out of law. When compared to other countries, America has a lower standard of healthcare, often with higher costs. In fact, only 58% of U.S. citizens believe they could afford necessary care if they received a serious illness (Miller). This is a dangerously low number, especially in relation to those of other nations. In 2010, the U.S., when compared to six other countries, was ranked 7th overall, trailing the Netherlands, the UK, Australia, Germany, New Zealand, and Canada (Faguet 126). Another illustration of low quality was in 2004 when the United States was ranked 29th for infant mortality rates. Drug or care related errors are also to blame for many American deaths (Health Care Reform). An additional attribute that nearly all other countries have is any kind of arrangement for patients to receive care after normal business hours; only 29% of physicians in the U.S. offer this (Faguet 128).
