I’m sure many people have heard of psoriasis. I however chose this topic because one of my close friends has psoriasis. The place you can see his the most is on his face. He’s suffered from this disease for as long as I have known him. He’s one of my best friends which encouraged me to do my discussion topic over this disease.
Psoriasis is a skin disease that is very much long term. You can get this disease at any age; however, most people develop it during their twenties. Psoriasis is normally described as red, raised, patches on the skin and the red areas are covered with silver-colored scales. If you were to scrap the scales off many of the tiny areas would bleed. The patches are also often times itchy. Only about two percent of all people have this disease.

Scientists believe that it is caused by the immune system begin too over active. They believe the immune system is working too hard to try and protect you from diseases. Psoriasis can be mild, moderate, or severe. Mild psoriasis affects about two percent or less of your skin. Moderate affects around two to ten percent. Severe affects over ten percent of the skin. There are five types of psoriasis: plaque type, guttate type, inverse type, erythrodermic type, and pustular type. Plaque psoriasis is the most common form of this disease, and is the mildest. Plaque psoriasis is also the form of this disease my very close friend has. Plaques are red patches covered with the rough silvery scales. A breakout of this type of psoriasis can happen on any area of the body. Around eighty percent of people with this disease have the plaque
