In America, there is an average of 5.5 million deaths per year from car accidents, mostly from human error. It is essential to keep everyone safe from any harm, and that is why owning a self-driving car is important. America is ready for driverless cars because it benefits the environment, makes them more economical, and most importantly, gives independence to people with disabilities.
Self-driving cars are statistically proven to be good for the environment and help with road control. Self-driving cars will likely be electric rather than gas consuming, because lots of people prefer to protect the environment against harmful emissions. In the future, the vehicle could drop occupants at their destination, while the vehicle parks itself. Having this type of vehicle, people could pursue more productive or entertaining activities, like responding to texts or watching a movie (Future Mobility). As of today, Engineers have achieved some of what was once just thought of. Driverless cars are very beneficial for people who have disabilities and can not drive without assistance. Rickey Norton explains, “People with disabilities or seniors are capable of highly automated vehicles that can help them, and can also enhance their independence” (Norton). In America, 26% have disabilities and 17% are seniors, which indicates that engineers should start developing more self-driving cars for those not able to drive. This could change the lives of people with disabilities who have been stuck in a wheelchair their entire lives, always riding on a bus and not being able to drive without assistance. It could impact their lifestyle and they could finally live life at its fullest. Improving the lives of people with disabilities also can help with the yearly cost of
