Soliciting sex or commercial sex thrives modern-day slavery that affects my minority community. According to the FBI, African American females make less than thirteen percent of the US population, yet they are forty percent of victims of sex trafficking and fifty-nine percent of juvenile prostitution victims. Several agencies with these cases do not understand the racism that perpetrates in the criminal justice, such as the higher restitution fees and increases in jail time. This global issue is one of the most pressing epidemics. Unfortunately, the constituents of my community lack the awareness of the presence of human trafficking near their homes. Sex trafficking can be found in rural or suburbs, but the primary regions are urban cities that are heavily populated. The Justice for Victims of Trafficking Act of 2015 establishes an emphasis on changing the liability of buyers and the legality of victims who are minors. The authorized survivors’ defended fund for rehabilitation purposes depends on the monetary value of the convicted buyer’s socio-economic status. Additionally, to the bill, it does not mention the changes in the criminal system nor focuses on factors such as poverty, homelessness, and welfare that lead to the exponential rate of victims. The Preventing Sex Trafficking and Strengthening Families Act is in the right steps forward in an ideal world. It does identify or determine the risks of youth being exploited in the foster care. Unfortunately, there have been budget cuts in the child welfare system and limitation on permanency housing for both the affected and at-risk
