In the novel, The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald, James Gatz was born into poverty in a small town in North Dakota. Gatz always felt distant from both of his parents, he did not dislike them, he just did not have an emotional connection with them like most children do. Even though Gatz and his family were less fortunate and impoverished, he always knew that one day he would be rich and prospeous. One day, while working on Lake Superior, Gatz noticed a yaght owned by a rich copper mogul that went by the name of Dan Cody, and rowed out to warn him about an impending storm. Cody was very grateful for this and made Gatz his assistant. Jay Gatz loved this change in lifestyle so much that he decided to change his name from James Gatz to Jay Gatsby. …show more content…

However, after this incident Gatsby dedicated his life to becoming rich and affluent, no matter what he had to do. Gtasby applied to the army and he met the love of his life, Daisy. They were instantly in love, so Gatsby asked Daisy to wait for him, but she couldn’t wait forever, so she married a man named Tom Buchanan. Once Gatsby returned from his service he knew his destiny was to be with Daisy Buchanan. No matter how low his chances were, he always stayed positive that one day he would be with her. Consequently, Daisy still loved her husband Tom. Gatsby did not care and he did whatever he needed to, to be with her. This is the reasoning for Jay Gatsby being significant to me. No matter how hard times were for him, he never gave up, and I really admire that. Numerous people give up in life when it gets tough, but Gatsby never gave up, even until his demise. Gatsby’s persistency made him one of my favorite characters, and gave him such an important role in the
