Argumentative essay on “The Raven” by Edgar Allan Poe.

(Introduction) “The Raven” by Edgar Allan Poe is a poem that is very dark. The poem is about a man whose wife recently died so now he is lonely. Some people would say that the main character is insane, but at the same time he is really sad about his wife’s passing. I say he is a little insane because at one point in the story he lets a raven in his house and starts to ask it questions. Most of the questions were him asking the raven if he would ever see his wife Lenore again, but I say he is sad because his wife just died and now he is all alone. I feel like Edgar Allan Poe did a wonderful job writing this poem, but at the same time he used certain words that make the reader think. …show more content…

I also feel like that one sentence alone shows you how much thinking you have to do when reading his poems. I did some reading on some of his other poems and they all are worded the same way. “The Raven” is so unique because of how dark it is. In my opinion this poem is really touching and sad at the same time because it teaches you about how bad grief can affect you. That alone could have caused him to act insane like he did. I say that because you have to think about it like this losing a loved one is very hard and can cause you to feel suicidal, and depressed. Both of those things are hard but depression is worse because that is what can push you to commit suicide. Some might say that is still not an excuse to act like that, but I feel like that is their opinion. Everybody would say something different about that because it is their personal opinion and not everyone has the same opinion as others.
