“Nature and nurture conspire together. One must keep both in view.” (Prinz). A highly regarded argument is whether genetics or society make a murder kill. “I believe the causes that create them are theological in nature, rather than societal. I believe they make a conscious choice to erase God's thumbprint from their souls.” (Burke). When considering what makes a person kill, one must first understand the Bible's interpretation and the role society and genetics play.
Genetics does not make character or personality. “About 30% of all men have this so-called “warrior gene”, but whether the gene is activated or not depends crucially on what happens to a person during childhood. The “warrior gene” is most likely to be triggered in people who were mistreated or abused in childhood.” (The Reeves Law Group) The “Warrior gene” or the MAOA gene is one linked to aggression, however no studies have tested whether the gene actually drives behavior manifestations. “There are many people who have lower expression of MAOA, but precious few of them turn into the serial killers that haunt our nightmares.” (Korpall) Just because someone has the MAOA gene does not give them an excuse to kill.
