A coach named Roderick Jackson was fired from his job. The reason that he was fired was because he insisted on equal resources and rights for his girls’ basketball team. He was not the only one concerned with women's equality in sports. Females should be able to play alongside of men because of the Title IX laws, the ACLU rulings for equal rights for females, and because females are capable of competing with men.
The law states that women should be allowed to participate alongside men in sports. On June 23, 1972 President Nixon signed Title IX of the educational amendments of 1972. The main reason the government made this law was to avoid using the government's money to support sex discrimination in the educational programs. An example is Jen Welter, who after her days of playing running back, became a temporary assistant, coaching the linebackers, for the Arizona Cardinals. Now some women are refs, coaches, scouts, and others are even commentators. Another female who paved the way for females in the sports’ world is Becky Hammon. She became the Spurs assistant coach and the first ever full-time salaried female NBA coach in August 2014. The second ever female full-time salaried assistant coach for the NBA was Nancy Lieberman for the Sacramento Kings. Nancy Lieberman was also the first to coach the Texas Legends in the NBA Development League. Now there is even a woman referee for the NFL. Sarah Thomas has been a full-time official since 2015. She did not automatically get this job though. She had been officiating for a while. Thomas officiated varsity high school in 1989, college basketball at the University of Mobile, and also a Bowl Game in 2009. These leaders clearly showed that women can be successful in sports’ market
