In recent years a great deal of attention has been centered on youth violence. Numerous studies have been conducted on children of all races who are subjected to gun violence. However, violent behaviors start from within the environment where children have been exposed to. Household, poor communities and school as well have put children at risk each day. With a crime rate of 45 percent 1,000 residence, Norfolk has one of the highest crime rate in America. The high crime rates caused by firearms are a result of how easy it is to access firearms. If the government system were to put more restrictions on weapons, the crime rates are more likely to go down.

One solution is strengthening familial relationships to prevent teens from wanting to have guns in the first place. Moms, dad, siblings and friends will know what they loved one are in the streets doing and just allow them to bring it into their homes. In additions, Neighborhood Scout found that a lot of the crimes that takes place in Norfolk are property crimes. Property crimes that are tracked for this analysis include larceny over fifty dollars, burglary, motor vehicle theft, and arson. Not only should the teens want better for themselves, but also for their community. It is upon the citizens of the community to come forth and speak with the youth because the chance of them listening to the police or even the president is slim to none. With that being said, the first step to decreasing or eliminating gun violence its starts at home simply by loving and guiding your children. In hopes that they will stop going in the streets looking for trouble and killing each other all because they have the lack or love and support inside their own
