Argumentative Essay: Raising The Driving Age

I come from a small town with, to put it bluntly, a bunch of hillbillies who seem to think they’re completely invincible. This is to say that reckless driving and car wrecks are something I’m well acquainted with. In Ohio, minors cannot use cell phones while driving at all, while adults are only banned from texting. I disagree with this law. Distracted driving affects all age groups, and no matter how experienced you are, looking at your phone while driving puts everyone in danger. Also, many teenagers have little to no sense of mortality, leading them to make impulsive decisions. People are too flawed to trust with something that causes so many deaths every day, but until we come up with a better solution, there are a few laws that could help keep everyone a bit safer. …show more content…

I realize that this would be hard this would be, but seeing the sheer stupidity that is adolescence first hand I think it’s a fair compromise. This isn’t to say that all teenagers are raving idiots, just that enough of them are that it gives reasonable cause. I have many examples, but the most prominent one in my mind were the backroads races. There is a long curvy backroad that led up to my old high school. Until local authorities caught on, students would race each other on their way to and back from school. I rode to school with my sister and her friend one day. We took the back road and a truck pulled up beside us and started honking like crazy. We threw insults back and forth and before I knew it my sister’s friend started to pick up speed. She never went under eighty and I started to pray to God when we whipped around corners. The guy in the passenger’s seat of the truck actually tried to crawl out of the window and get in the flat bed, but thankfully lost his nerve. I’m not sure how, but we all made it to school alive. To avoid more stories like this, I say we should wait to give children four-wheeled death
