Record Store Day 2016 is this Saturday (April 16) and independent stores all over the country, and the world, will be celebrating. Here in New York, there will be numerous live music and events going on across the state to go with the exclusive music releases. Created in 2007, Record Store Day is a celebration of independent record stores and the relationship between artists and fans. For one day only, stores have exclusive vinyl releases from top artists. Earlier this year, Metallica was named the 2016 Record Store Day ambassadors, the first time a group has been given this honor. Performing bands include Monogold and Seaside Caves. Doors to the store open at 10AM. -Rough Trade in Brooklyn has a lot going on for Record Store Day in terms of live music. An hour after the store opens at 9AM, the music begins with a DJ set from Eli Paperboy Reed, followed by Max Jury at 12PM, Wall at 1PM, Jesca Hoop at 2PM, Nothing at 3PM, The Fleshtones at 4PM, and Mr. Lif at 5PM. Sponsored by Master and Dynamic, the crawl takes ticketholders on a bus tour of New York City’s record stores, including Generation Records, Bleecker Street Records and Rough Trade, with rock band Bear Hands, who will give a special on-bus performance.
