There are a lot of things going on in the world about abortion, whether it should be allowed or not, but how about the death penalty. One of the things that Nebraskans need to beware of is the decision that needs to be made; Should Nebraska have the Death Penalty. People have every different opinions or beliefs on this situation. My opinion is my belief. I am a proud Catholic and I am not ashamed to admit that my opinion has to do with what the Catholic Church teaches. I believe that there should not be a death penalty, unless the person cannot be contained and is a danger to citizens. I can come up with a lot reasons like negative consequences for our communities and our state, the input of the views of the catholic church, and the catholic churches simple facts to prove it wrong. According to a Catholic Mobilizing Network magazine reporter Alex Kelly, “States that have the death penalty have a higher crime rate, than states that do not have the death penalty.” This is just showing that the death penalty is unnecessary. People are going to do crime. Nebraska needs to understand that instead of ending someone’s live, we can get the criminal the help he or she needs. “The death penalty is more expensive than life without parole, which many studies have been conducted to prove so according,” says Catholic News Service. Nebraska has more important thing in our state that the money could be put towards. The money could be put towards building better roads, school lunch programs, or improving the education programs. The monthly Catholic postcard sent to priest of every church stated, that the death penalty doesn’t give a solution to root causes of the crime with in our communities. It is an unnecessary response.
