Javarious Jackson Mrs. Clark English III/2nd block 12/17/17 Social Change after the Civil War The Civil War occurred from April 1861 to May 1865. This all started when the confederates invaded the union soldiers at Fort Sumter, South Carolina. The Civil War happened all over America from Pennsylvania to Mississippi. Among all of the wars that have occurred through the years, the Civil War has the leading amount of soldier deaths. Ending the war, the Northern armies took home the victory. The Civil War was hard for many Americans during and after the war. Many people lives had changed in such a short time. People had to adjust too many things, concerning their lifestyle. Majority of the war was fought in the south, which means the north wasn’t as damaged as the south. Cotton started to be shipped throughout the world. “While the war was going on, the north had a blockade on the south”; which made it extremely had for the south. They was not able to get much cotton through during this time. The south lost money, because other countries couldn’t buy cotton the south due to the civil war, so they eventually started to buy from other countries. The major result of the civil war was reconstruction, which occurred for a few years and it still remains today. As described on digitalhistory.edu, reconstruction around this time was “the role of the federal government in protecting citizens’ rights and the possibility of economic and racial justice”, but it has not been solved just yet. A known fact that has been commonly by passed is that the first reconstruction plan was rejected. After that happened, the government worked to make a plan that focused on making equal rights.
