College football playoff system
The current bowl system in college football has been heavily criticized over the past few years for a variety of reasons. Many contend that the four team bracket is inadequate to properly identify the best team in college football. To allow for a more equitable representation of the best teams in the nation, an expanded playoff system has been a common solution among critics.
Such a system would include eight or even sixteen teams. This could increase both the excitement for the fans as well as the income associated with the playoffs. This not only limits the amount of star lower in these games, but also who came to watch some of the best most exciting college athletes play in the game. Some of the biggest problems with the current playoff and bowl system are, Due to the limited number of playoff spots in the bowl system, a wider playoff bracket system that encompasses a larger range of teams needs to be adopted. The bowl system is outdated. In almost every other major sport, leagues have adopted a much larger bracket so as to allow for more overall games in the postseason. The current system is biased to “Power 5” teams. With the current playoff system only including four teams so many great teams aren’t given a chance to participate in the playoffs. There are some amazing teams in college football but since the current playoff system is so exclusive to non power 5 teams don’t even have a shot to compete

for a national championship. Expanding the playoff system to 12 or 16 teams would fix this problem immediately.

(Clark). If the playoff bracket was to expand a greater emphasis would put on regular season play. There are a few reasons why this would be the case.
The first reason being that there would be more opportunities to be in the playoffs. Teams would continue to play with full effort even if they already had a loss. With the current four team system it takes almost a perfect season to make it into the playoffs. Teams that lose one game often don’t make it into the playoffs and are ready to throw in the towel for their season after one loss. Also with an expanded playoff system of say 12 or 16 teams, teams would play their hardest so they could achieve the highest seed possible in the playoffs. Teams would have much more determination to play out there whole season and finish the best way possible with as few losses so they could be a high seed and play a lower seeded team. A larger playoff format rewards that way more than a four team playoff system. Being a 1 seed and playing a 16 seed is much more rewarding than being a 1 seed and playing a 4 seed off the rip.
Another reason why an expanded playoff system would be beneficial is because it gives
