Can you imagine finding a bout in your neighborhood with no arms and legs? 12 people were found this way and it may have been as many as 20. “The American equivalent of the terrifying crime spree of Jack the Ripper was undoubtedly the "Cleveland Torso Murders" that took place in an area called Kingsbury Run in the middle 1930’s” (Praiirieghosts, 2004). The Cleveland Torso Murders left the city of Cleveland in fear for over three years as these murders happened but nobody has ever been convicted. Frank Dolezal was arrested and charged with murder of victim number three. Some say that he was coached into confessing but we will never know as he committed suicide while in jail. Both of them were decapitated. More victims showed up in Pennsylvania, murderd the same way, with their heads removed but they were not tied to the Cleveland murders until later. The Cleveland police force finally put Peter Merylo and Martin Zewelski onto the case full time. Both were Cleveland detectives but all of their leads went no-where. They had some possible victims to include Dr Sweeny because of his knowledge of the human body. The killer even taunted the police by leaving two victims in plain sight of city hall. Dolezeal was the prime suspect and confessed to the murders but he was found with 6 broken ribs, all suffered in jail before he died. Some say he was beaten to give a confession. Most of the victims were considered drifters or people of lower incomes. Cleveland was in the depression and work was hard to come by. They lived in Shanty towns and on the outskirts of town. My theory is they caught the right guy as the murders ended abroublty and I can find on evidence of any other serial killers soon after. The police may have beat a confession out of the suspect but I think it was the right guy. All of the victims were decapitated and most were dismembered. The victims were found in Cleveland and it may have been as many as twenty. Is there still a murderer among us waiting for his knife to go into action again?
