On April 9, 1865, the two generals met at the Appomattox Court House where they both signed a peace agreement marking the end of the Civil War and also Grant let Lee and his men return to there homes so no one got hurt or died. Ulysses S. Grant was a great and one of the best general and commanders during the Civil War. After the war, Grant was promoted to full general and oversaw the military during Reconstruction. Without Grant's bravery during the war, the United States would still be separated into two different countries.
The Civil War had the most dead men ever in US history. No ordinary person would want to be a part of that gruesome war. Why would Texans volunteer to fight in it then? This all started when “the glue that held America together began to unstick in 1820 (Background Essay)”. The main cause of the Civil War was slavery, which was a huge controversy between the North and South.
April 12, 1861. Confederate forces fired shots at the fort Sumpter and Union troops surrendered sparking the Civil War. Though, how did it come to this? As one can see, evidence shows the primary cause of the Civil War was slavery because of the many more slaves than free blacks, the Kansas-Nebraska Act of 1854 fought over slave or free states, and Dred Scott fought for his freedom from slavery.
“It is good that war is so horrible or, we might grow to like it”-Robert E, Lee. Lee is saying that Texans didn’t want to go to war, but their willing to do it for their state’s rights. Events that lead up to the war was when Abraham Lincoln got elected because he was anti-slavery President, and he wanted to end slavery in the united states. Texans fought in The Civil War, to protect states rights, Texas secession, and slavery.
The event known as the Civil War had redefined the means of being a American. The actions that happened during the war helped that because of the conflicts that made the war occur. The South wanted to keep the slaves, but the North wanted the slaves to be gone and for everyone to have basic human rights, which became controversial and problematic. They divided into states, one that wanted to promote the slavery and one who wanted no slavery at all and became anti-slavery, but why did they decide to fight over it?
During the 19th century American had it southern states secede thus causing a civil war between americans and there were 2 sides the Confederates from the south and the Union from the North the war was sparked by the elections of the 16th century. After the Union kind of won the battle of Antietam Lincoln decides to make The Emancipation Proclamation Which freed all the black slaves in the North. Once the Emancipation Proclamation was accepted Lincoln decided to allow African Americans to join the Union Army. This decision ultimately helped the Union in winning the Civil War. When the African Americans were accepted in the Union Army they were put to do labor for the Union and later they were given the opportunity to go fight for their country
The Civil War was an American blood shed. Tens of thousands of soldiers died each day… ALONE! The Civil War started in 1861.The U.S had even amount of slave and free states and then a guy named John Brown “invaded” the South. Abraham Lincoln then got elected president in 1860. Then there was the main moment… the Civil War broke out about slavery in 1861.
Venturing into the woods, smoke everywhere, bombs flying over your heads, people around you being shot down one by another. This was just the beginning of the Civil War, the harshest war in American history, especially for the Texans. It all started because Abraham Lincoln was elected president, and didn’t want slaves. But, why did the Texans fight? They wanted to keep slavery, protect states’ rights, and overall, for the love of their state, Texas.
The Civil War was a conflict fought between the Confederacy and the Union after the Confederacy succeeded from the Union because of new laws that were abolishing slavery. After the Civil war, America was severely unorganized and in need of reconstruction. Reconstruction was a series of attempts by the United States government to reconstruct society in the Southern states by adding laws that protected the rights of freedmen. As a result of the Union's victory in the war, the Confederacy was forced to rejoin and abide by its rules. The union began implementing civil rights amendments such as the right to freedom, the right to citizenship, and the right to vote for formerly enslaved African Americans to ensure equal rights and promote equality.
What Caused the Civil War? Slavery helped build the United States, but it did help disjoin it as well. The Civil War costed over 600,000 lives who were all fighting over one question. Should slavery exist or be abolished?
Hundreds of years of slavery. Millions of innocent lives were lost. If America did not have the Civil War, how much longer would it take until Black Americans would be fully considered equal? Would Black Americans still be used as slaves today? The outcome of the war rather than abolishing slavery was devastating, but if a war this awful needed to happen to stop slavery, then it shows how immense the amount of unethicalness of owning a person is.
The two out four questions that I choose are to 1.) Discuss the causes of the civil war. Cite as many facts as possible to back up your analysis. And answer 2.) If the enduring vision of America is embodied in the Declaration of Independence's statements about equality and universal rights to justice, liberty, and self-fulfillment, how much progress toward those ideals had blacks and women made by 1877?
The Union victory in the Civil War in 1865 may have given some 4 million slaves their freedom, but the process of rebuilding the South during the Reconstruction period (1865-1877) introduced a new set of significant challenges. Northerners assumed that martial law and the military’s role in the south would end in 1865. They expected the southerners to acknowledge defeat by treating blacks justly, rejecting Confederate leaders, and embraced southern Unionists. None of these things happened. Encouraged by President Andrew Jackson’s Reconstruction policy, which imposed no server penalties on the south, unashamed southerners elected former Confederates to state, local, and national offices, formed militia units composed of ex-soldiers, passed
The Civil War The Civil War was the deadliest war in American history with over 600000 American deaths reported. This war was fought to keep the Confederate States from leaving the Union. The Union won because they had a telegraph system and had more resources. The effect of the Union victory has had a large impact on society.
