From 1920-1933 America had a prohibition on alcohol. Let me tell you what that did for our country. It created disrespect for the law, it introduced organized crime, hundreds of thousands of people lost their jobs, it increased the amount people drank, and it was expensive for our government. There is a prohibition on marijuana and it has the same negative effects on our country today. It’s a problem that needs to be addressed. William F. Buckley, Jr. says, “Marijuana prohibition has done far more harm to far more people than marijuana ever could.” America should legalize medical and recreational marijuana use. The pros far outweigh the cons in this matter. It would improve the economy, reduce organized crime, make it harder for kids to get, and help people in need of its medical benefits.
