United States Postal Service The United States Postal Service is based on the single principle that every single person, no matter who or where, has the right to equal, secure, and sufficient mail service. This service has through the years helped to strengthen bonds between families, friends, and businesses. While it is not a service that many people give enough credit to, it has been around since the very beginning of the United States government. The U.S. Postal Service is a major part of everyone’s lifestyle. This is supposed to save them around 2 billion dollars a year, so the USPS is welcoming this new budget cut. However, this budget cut is only a short-term solution. According to Rick Geddes, specialist at CNN “The Postal Service's business model needs fundamental change for it to thrive and avoid liquidation. Those reforms must focus not only on reducing costs, but also on allowing the Service to generate new sources of revenue from its existing assets.” The United States Postal Service’s most profitable asset is their first-class letter mail. Yet, even their most profitable asset has fallen by 33% since its 2001 peak. As well as the business losing almost 16 billion dollars in 2012, and currently loses around 25 million dollars a day.
