Many kids, teens, parents, and grandparents exercise through an activity called dance. It is an athletic activity requiring skill or physical expertise and often is of a competitive nature. Dance involves stylization or conforming to a particular style, organization, long attention spans, and practice. The people who would be involved in dance are the ones that put their minds to it. The majority of the reasons dance can be a sport is because dancing has the same type of strategies that sports have. Also, it takes a lot of energy out of a person the same way activities such as running does. For example, dance keeps people in shape just like soccer, and basketball does. When keeping in shape, a majority of people feel it is important to stretch before and after exercising. Most teams, during sports seasons, stretch before playing a game, and dancers always warm up and stretch before performing (Monica Shah). Most people stretch, but there are a select few who do not before playing a game or performing choreography. It is physically unacceptable to not stretch the body because it could cause an injury or painful situation. Another great point is, “Dancing can be [an] excellent cardiovascular exercise...experts at the Mayo Clinic and the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute agree…”(Monica Shah). Higher organizations declare dancing is included in the sports category, making this debate even better. Dancing takes the wind out of a person pretty quickly, just like someone running a mile. With this in mind, the heart can start racing, sweat starts dripping down the body, and many deep breaths can follow.
