Voting is a Right, Not a Privilege They protested, they were jailed, they were force fed, and they were tortured. They were the suffragettes. These women knew they deserved the right to vote just as much as the men of this country, and they fought for it. These women nearly died so that girls like myself can now make a difference. In the year 1920, the 19th amendment was passed, giving women all across America the right to vote in elections. America has come to be the land of the free and the home of the brave. In our country, everyone is supposed to be equal no matter their race, gender, religious beliefs or sexual preference. People are allowed to do or believe in anything they want. Women gaining the right to vote was a large step for this country; a step closer to equality. What this country needs now is a leader who is not racist, not sexist, and not biased in anyway. The leader of the free world should be working for the people, not the businesses and corporations. The best candidate for the job is Hilary Clinton. I question why a businessman thinks he can succeed in the greatest government position in the country with no experience in government or politics. The United States economy is not a corporation that you can market and profit from or declare bankruptcy on. As an environmental major and a firm believer in scientific evidence, I find it appalling that the Republican party refuses to even suggest that there is any issue with how we are destroying our planet. Hilary wants to stop the oil drilling in the Arctic, and stop tax giveaways to large oil and gas companies.
