WHAT IS AFFIRMATIVE ACTION?

Affirmative Action is the policy or policies in support of a particular group of people who currently suffer or historically suffered from inequality. Often Affirmative Action policies focus on education and employment and many organizations and institutions actively engage in efforts to improve opportunities for those particular groups who are excluded or unequal in American society. Affirmative action affected minorities and women. Affirmative Action policies provide equal access to things that excluded groups were denied from obtaining. What put this motion in order was John F. Kennedy when he issued Executive Order 10925. Affirmative action in education prepares minorities and women for positions in STEM(science, technology engineering and math), medicine and business, positions traditionally occupied by white men. Affirmative action was created in education to prevent admissions office from purposely avoiding applications from people of minorities just because they feel they are “inferior”. Without affirmative action many people would be deprived of opportunities that they truly deserve.
