Looking back on your teenage years did you ever feel like the world was uncompromisingly against you? At some point that was probably a thing, well whatever you thought the reason for that feeling was, one of the potential reasons is known as ageism. Ageism as the name implies is the discrimination against a person or group of people solely because of their age. These days that word doesn’t get thrown around very much other than in reference to senior citizens. Well the argument i intend to present is that ageism is alive and well and aimed not only at the senior citizens but at the adolescent population as well. The argument based around the need to focus more on education than whatever the adolescent is being told to leave alone also has valid applications depending on the season and the application of the argument. The argument that the adolescent population is altogether too young to make specific decisions is quite frankly a flimsy argument against the lack of ageism because that argument is in itself an ageist statement.
