My claim is that capital punishment should be abolished in Arizona. The supporting reasons are that it capital punishment doesn't deter crime rates, it isn't cost-efficient, has resulted in the death of many innocent prisoners, lacks morality and isn't always guarenteed to be painless. Clayton Lockett was executed April, 2014 by a lethal injection. First, he was to be injected with a sedative, and once unconscious woud be followed up by the injections that would kill him. However, phlebotomist incorrectly injected Lockett's vein, meaning he remained conscious and had to endure excrutiating pain for 43 minutes before he died of a heart attack. No matter what crime someone has committed, no one deserves to go through that. Our justice system isn't setting any better of an example for our society, by torturing and killing prisoners. …show more content…

The most significant case involving the death penalty that took place in Arizona was Gary Tison and Randy Greenawalt. Both were serving life sentences in the Arizona State Prison for previous murders and escaped from prison, with the assistance of Tison's three sons. During their getaway, the gang murdered a family and another couple, who were trying to assist them. During a shootout, one of the Tison brothers was killed and the other two were taken into custody.
