Gene Therapy, deliberately modifying the characteristics of an organism by manipulating its genetic material. Gene Therapy has been proven to improve people's lives and their health it has saved over 2,000 people through injecting new and genes through vectors. A new gene is injected into an adenovirus vector, which is used to introduce the modified DNA into a human cell. If the treatment is successful, the new gene will make a functional protein. Gene therapy can treat cancer and can be an alternative to other treatments. Gene therapy has also been a good technique for diseases not yet discovered.

Since 1990, gene therapy has successfully been performed 2,300 times. It has saved many lives, and improved much more, particularly those with …show more content…

Gene therapy causes less severe side effects compared to it’s competition and boosts your immune system whereas treatments such as Chemotherapy put immunity at risk causing you to be sicker than you previously were. Chemotherapy side effects include fatigue, hair loss, anemia, and loss of appetite which can make some individuals sicker. Chemo also puts you at risk for urine and bladder changes that can induce issues with the kidneys, as well as fertility problems. Compared to patients undergoing gene therapy suffer flu-like symptoms. Many “life-saving” drugs can be so poisonous you will literally die. A study by Public Health England and Cancer Research UK found that across England around 8.4 percent of patients with lung cancer, and 2.4 percent of breast cancer patients died within a month all deaths caused by chemotherapy treatment, whereas there has only been 1 human death from gene therapy since it's been available to the public. Only gene therapy may be more comfortable for patients to receive, it's not really “available to the public”. This treatment therapy may possibly be for the rich only and could make the rich richer and the poor poorer, indefinitely. With the average cost for an initial chemo treatment being approximate $7,000, chemo is financially easier. Radiation being the cheaper treatment has close to the same side effects as chemotherapy. All things considered, gene
