“Anybody who's in favor of gun control is a fucking moron.” Jackie Mason. The preservation of the second amendment is imperative in order for law abiding citizens to protect themselves from criminals and the threat of a tyrannical government. Advocates for gun control use gun violence as their defense asking the government to protect them in the name of public safety. Even though some people believe gun control will improve public safety, gun control hinders public safety and protects the government because gun control does not deter the criminal use of firearms and gun control equals absolute despotism.
Advocates for gun control believe banning or restricting the ownership of firearms will improve public safety. Restricting or denying the access to guns will in fact have little impact on public safety. Firearms accounted for less than 0.5 percent of fatalities in the United States in 2007. States and cities with the strictest regulations tend to have the highest crime rates. For example Detroit, Michigan, Oakland, California, and Baltimore, Maryland are rated as the most dangerous cities in America and also have some of the most stringent gun control regulations. The strict regulations on the obtaining and ownership of firearms in these cities has not improved the safety of their inhabitants. As Keita Shimizu said “Guns are not the problem, it is us that is the problem.” While gun control laws place restrictions on law abiding citizens, the problem lies with those who have no intention on complying with any such
