On July 20, 1969, Neil Armstrong became the first man to land on the moon. This historical event would not have been possible without progressive taxes to help fund it. This type of tax taxes citizens more at higher rates as their income increases. Progressive taxes should be enforced because there will be less tax burdens on the majority of the population, more money for schools and infrastructures, and there will be less income inequality. With flat taxes, when a family’s income has a sudden decrease, their tax burdens have a sudden increase. If progressive taxes are enforced, schools would have more funding (education-portal.com). This means that better education would be more affordable, schools could provide more supplies and books to students, and teachers would be paid more and would not be laid off as often. Also, the government would have the money to fix roads, rebuild disintegrating public structures, etc. This is extremely important because poor students that want to be successful and work hard to achieve their goals can get a better education without accruing a mountain of debt. Even though with flat taxes everyone is being taxed the same, those with lower income spend a greater percent of their income on taxes than anyone else. This is because, even though all classes spend their income on life necessities; such as food, drinks, and clothes, families in the lower class spend a higher percentage of their income on these necessities while families in the upper class collect that money without circulating it throughout the economy.
