Racism; Still Present But Forgotten

Have you noticed what is happening around you? Racism in today’s society is not apparent but is still a big problem and needs to be noticed. It is a lot more subtle than it was before, but it still has the same effect on people, it is appearing in different forms and there are new targeted races. People believe that society has evolved for the better, but that is not the case. Racism is a big problem that is often overlooked and it needs recognition.
Racism is not as easily picked up today than it was in the past. There is no more separation between race regarding bathrooms, restaurants or entrances. It may look like it has been resolved, but it is still present in subtle ways. Racism is still present today in the education system. It can appear in more than one way, for example, in religious schools. The media has a lot of influence on everyone. People go on the internet or watch the news, and change their insights depending on what the media says about it. This is a big problem because whatever the media says, many people follow. Today, there are still racist remarks or jokes in movies, shows, news reports or articles. There are also new races targeted. People now refer to asian and indian people as “yellow” and “red” people. For example, White Chicks is a movie that targets the white race. It’s about the Wayan brothers who go undercover as white girls. The movie is supposed to be funny, but it goes to show how many stereotypes we hold against races.
