Arguments Against Standardized Testing

Standardized testing was supposed to be a new way to hold schools and states accountable for teaching students the right in information. It has become the overstaying house guess who that keeps leaving their wet socks on the bathroom floor, and it has been leaving that mess since 2001. Some parents are done with putting their children under pressure to be the same as their peers on these tests. Also, it makes students less motivated to learn when all they are learning about is tests, and it does not prepare them for college. Teachers need be focused on teaching students, not on making students the best test taker. Students need well round education, not more standardized testing from grownups who have never step inside a classroom before. Therefore, standardized testing should be more authentic and should reward progress to the induvial students.

The act went effect when signed by President George W. Bush. The original intent of the No Child Left Behind Act was to hold states and schools to a higher standard in mathematics and reading. It also came with standardized testing which gave schools ratings basic on what student produced. It was supposed to give parents choice for their children. The testing made parents more aware of the school standing by the test. According to the NCLB act “In addition to helping ensure that no child lose the opportunity for a quality education because he or she is trapped in a failing school…” (2). What the government wanted to happen was that regardless of your background. The school districts are requiring to have AYP (Adequate Yearly progress) to evaluate the school and the district by the standardized testing. The act includes a grant that reward teachers.
