Is Standardized Testing Really on Our Side?
Everyone has experienced the stress of having to take a standardized test at least once in their lives. In fact, pre test break downs are now so common, that it has become regulation for test booklets to include instructions for an event where a student might vomit on their booklet. Clearly, there is something wrong with our current way of measuring intelligence if it has gone so far that students and teacher are being unfairly given such and amount of stress and anxiety. Standardized testing is not effective as it doesn't only inaccurately test intelligence and misrepresent student’s potential, but also does more harm to students and society than good.

Every student is going to have different situations, whether it has to do with money, mental health, teachers, or extracurriculars to list a few. Imagine your family is in a tight spot where money is concerned. You are obviously going to do whatever possible to save and spend less money. Whereas there will be other students who are able to hire private tutors and countless other resources in order to do better on the test. In all honesty, this could not have a more negative effect on students in the long run. Sure standardized testing might cause teachers and schools to place much more emphasis on topics known to be on said tests such as math, science, language arts, and social studies. All this really does however is make sure students do well on tests rather than make sure they are well rounded and prepared for whatever their future might bring. While subjects like math and language arts are put into priority in schools, other subjects like art, music, and physical education are tossed to the side to be quickly skimmed over sometime during the year. Not only does this contribute to the loss and downgrade of arts and music in society, it also creates a narrower minded
