When texting, it is customary to abbreviate certain words in order to save time. These abbreviations can be considered a language that evolves out of texting, and that language can be referred to as textspeak.
These cell phones are a huge cause of many car accidents. Americans using their cell phones to text, call, or surf the internet while driving is the cause of up to about 80% of accidents (TextingnDriving par 1). So many people are seen using their phones while driving it is becoming impossible for police to gain control over the issue. How can one quick text or response be so dangerous? All it takes is for someone to not paying attention to the rode and the people around for something to happen. In the last two years, both Kansas and Missouri have passed laws prohibiting some drivers from texting and driving at the same time, while some of the other laws prohibit every driver from texting while behind the wheel. These different laws (proposed and/or passed) have provided much debate. For instance, “Missouri's current law against texting while driving only applies to those drivers who are 21 or younger. The law was put in force in 2009 and was the result of a quickly composed legislative compromise” (“Texting While Driving Debate… “ 1).
Although there would be negative consequences if texting while driving would be banned and you were to be caught, it is better than regretting and living with shame once a calamity were to occur because of your carelessness and stubborn self. Each year, drivers who use cell phones cause 1.6 million car accidents and nearly 330,000 injuries. Considering that cell phones are one of the greatest items to happen, it make stuff easier to accomplish without having to do much effort, communicating with anyone around the world, but there should be a limit when it could endanger other people’s lives. It is not only the phones that drivers are distracted by, it is also foods, drinks, conversing, and listening to loud music. Several United States cities and other countries such as Canada have considered banning the use of cellphones while driving. Statistics show the percent of sixteen year olds that got into an accident was significantly less than those of twenty-five year olds. Many states, however are concerned for the safety of teens and believe that driving should be raised to eighteen as a minimum age. The age requirement for teen drivers should not be raised because it increases responsibility skills, and allows teenagers to have more experience in driving. Being able to depend by ownself and be responsible is key to growing as a teenager. Driving solo and doing activities helps a teenager achieve that.

After hearing of a fatal distracted driving accident, she wrote of the accident, “The impact [of the crash] spun their car sideways into Shaw’s lane, and the trailing pickup truck plowed into the side of the Saturn, killing both men instantly”(Henneberg). Both of these drivers were physically hurt all because of texting and driving.
Finally, I will discuss the potential solutions to this serious issue.
