Janet Bakke’s story is an example of direct victimization. Janet was the target of abuse. As a child her biological father mentally and physically abused Janet.
Do you view the young woman as a victim of rape, even though she was under the influence and the defendant never penetrated her with his penis? - Yes, I see the young woman as a victim of rape because whether or not he penetrated her with his penis, he had the intent to because her underwear was off, her legs were spread open, he was erect, and he was on top of her as if he was having sex with her. Also, the young woman was unconscious at the time and had no idea this was even taking place. Brock Turner clearly had gone after someone he knew he could get something out of because at the time the victim could not verbally consent to him.
Victims’ Rights in Liberal and Conservative States Hawaii and Tennessee are liberal and conservative states respectively because the former has a strong stand on equity among individuals while the later strongly believes in good morals. The criminal victims’ rights were founded in the 1970s due to victim marginalization that existed for a long period (Caplan 224). Montaldo argues that all the fifty states have rules to protect victims during the trial process (“How to Write” 2). These rights ensure the victims are treated fairly during the prosecution process. The criminal victims’ rights of these two states have both similarities and differences, and the states consider themselves liberal and conservative respectively due to their different belief in the role of the government.
When one thinks about the court systems and the way justice is served they see a system that is fair and just. A system that correctly provides punishment to the guilty party, and one that can discover the truth within the innocent party. On the surface level this appears to be true. Hundreds of thousands of people are incarcerated each year in the United States, which in reality provides a false sense of safety to citizens. While a large percentage of incarcerations are of guilty parties, according to a study in C. Ronald Huff’s book, Convicted But Innocent: Wrongful Conviction and Public Policy, approximately 100,000 innocent people are convicted every year.
Between 1978 and 2001 “at least 65 women disappeared from the Downtown Eastside district of Vancouver, British Columbia” (Robert Pickton Case 2016). Robert Pickton, the most infamous serial killer in Canadian history, admitted to a cell mate that he murdered forty-nine of those women. Pickton was charged with twenty-six counts of second-degree murder and convicted of six. He never plead guilty to any of these charges in court and has shown no remorse for the brutality he released on these victims. The factors included in the Pickton case are his childhood, Victimology Theory, Routine Activity Theory, and Social Process Theory, as well as the advancement of Geographical Profiling this case brought.

The catalyst for the Victim’s Rights Movement was related to the 1973 supreme court decision “Linda R.S vs Richard D”. That case had a court ruling to stated that the complaint did not the “ the legal standing to keep the prosecutor's' office from discriminately applying a statute criminalizing non-payment of child support. 1.Society as a whole believes serial killer are evil because that is how the media portrays them. We subconsciously let the media control our thoughts by believing it what they tell us. The media knows the power they have over us when we listen to the news, watching a movie or even reading the newspaper. In the way they report news on serial killers , it promotes fear and anxiety to their viewers. Movies even have more effect than we realize as well .

There are many factors that plays into the reasons why the death penalty is wrong and no one deserves it. No matter how heinous the crime(s) was. One major factor that plays a role in the death penalty is, racial discrimination or being poor. African Americans are at a higher risk of the death penalty than any other minority. There are more white prosecutors in death penalty states, than any other minority.

This is an increase of nearly 20’000 recorded crimes in just 3 years. Note that these are only the recorded figures. Many more crimes go unreported. This may be because of intimidation, blackmail or embarrassment among many reasons.
