Unit 2: EA2 Argumentative Essay Reflection What I feel I did well on this argumentative essay was my research. I had many sources that provided me with facts and statistics and they helped me to decide what side I was on. There were many sources that I did not use but that I had read through. What I struggled with was commentary.
North Platte was still a town in the United States in World War Two. This meant they were still given ration books. North Platte and all the surrounding towns helping the canteen had limitations on sugar, coffee, gasoline, among many other items. People stopped drinking coffee, and children stopped asking for birthday cakes. Together they pooled together all of their rations to make food for the soldiers.
Western Washington has a diverse and well trained group of writing centers. I was fortunate enough to be able to visit Central Washington University, Highline Community College, Shoreline Community College, Tacoma Community College and University of Washington Bothell . The goal was to find out what the writing centers are using for training, and how the centers operated. The four centers I visited, and the one center I interviewed, were extremely welcoming and have a diverse variety of extensive training programs. Observations of these writing centers enlightened me with an overwhelming amount of information.

During the Civil War, William Mason Grosvenor had commanded the first unit of blacks soldiers to battle for the North. From a firsthand reconstruction perspective, he saw the state and local governments being lenient towards accepting incoming state governments, such as Louisiana, that made little change in the political and economic status of blacks after the abolition of slavery. He also issued the abeyance theory of reconstruction. According to Grosvenor, the North should enforced their laws onto the South where punishing treason would straighten the “rebels” from being destructive to America and if the Confederates states continues to follow their constitution then America wouldn’t bind into one whole nation. Rebels treason because they feel hopeless.

Howard Zinn famously once said: “The First Amendment is whatever the cop on the beat says it is.” Zinn’s words may have best been exemplified in Ferguson, Missouri, in the aftermath of the Michael Brown shooting. The First Amendment states that no law shall be made “abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble” (U.S. Constitution). Yet in Ferguson, protesters were confronted by police officers carrying military-grade equipment, and reporters were arrested while simply doing their job. Zinn appears to have been right; at least temporarily, the rights an American has under the First Amendment are whatever the cop on the beat says they are.
The next step, Karen recommends on our journey towards offering a professional self-published book is a good proofreader. I consider myself to be a good proofreader, but it has been my experience that I do not proof my own work nearly as closely as I do that of other writers, especially the one who wrote the cringe worthy eBook.
