The main argument for federalist No.10 was that the new ideas suggested in the constitution were one of the safest ways to go about trying to build a government for our country. The idea was that we needed a republic that was going to protect the liberty and the rights of the citizens while also protecting against those who have other interests at heart which could have hurt the system that they were trying to put in place. Another reason they needed it was to stop factions, factions were groups of people sometimes in larger groups that had other interests at heart even if their interests would only benefit them. James Madison defines fractions as a “mortal disease” (Library) and talks about how the people concerned with their own agenda don't help their fellow man or society. …show more content…

The thought was that the power should be with the citizens to vote and to back that up with a strong central government that would be able to handle the tasks and problems that would come up. Madison said that a federal system was important so that when it was needed, the government would have the power that they need to ensure that the United States would continue to thrive for years to come. Also, with the federal system, everybody is united under one which promotes prosperity in the times of tragedies. When the federalists were arguing their reasons, one of their main points was “These constitutions are distinctive in being not simply compacts between rulers and rulers but involving the people, the general government, and the states constituting the federal union.”
