LGBTQ, it seems as if the number of letters to refer to the sexual movement grows with each passing day. For the church this issue creates an immense amount of pressure. For some it is the pressure to change and for others it is the pressure to respond. The problem stems from the church’s failure as a whole to correctly address the issue of sexual sin, rather than specific sexual practices. The totem pole for the whole LGBT movement is homosexuality, so for the purposes of this argument, I will use the arguments made for homosexuality. The argument for the acceptance of homosexuality rests on two things, inconsistent treatment toward sin within the church and what God say about homosexuality in the Bible. To the first point, proponents of homosexuality say, “Heterosexual Christians are being unbiblical by using the clobber passages as justification for applying absolute standards of morality to homosexual “sins” that they themselves are not tempted to commit, while at the same time accepting for themselves a standard of relative morality for those sins listed in the clobber passages that they do routinely commit” (Shore). The argument is that homosexuality is unfairly treated as a cut and dry issue, and that while other sins are considered contextually, homosexuality receives harsh and rigid judgment in the church. This argument then branches into the idea that the Bible barely talks about homosexuality, and it isn’t clear about how it should be handled. “As we see, the Bible really does not fully address the topic of homosexuality. Jesus never talked about it. The prophets never talked about it…nowhere does the Bible talk about a loving and committed homosexual relationship”
