What do you think of the Middle Ages? Do you think of knights? Magic and mythology? Did you know that one of the most important things of that time was the vast and intricate hierarchy from Aristocracy, to Clergy, down to Peasantry. Is it the fantastical world everyone thinks it is, or is it the dark ages of it’s third name.

Aristocracy, the Class of Kings

Aristocracy was like the first class of medieval times, full of royal and noble bloodlines. It was the highest class to be born into. If you were born into a royal or noble bloodline you had to marry someone else with either royal or noble blood. Just as you could be considered royal or noble, the class gets even more elaborate, and extremely detailed.

For example if anyone in Clergy gave a service, they were excused from taxes. It was almost like a class better than Aristocracy in a way. In addition to being pardoned from taxes, the church had much influence over the King and ways of society. One way it was worse than Aristocracy was that in Clergy the rankings were less like rankings a more like jobs. For instance Bishops were responsible for teaching and governing. Even if it meant their children would have to be that. Farmers, Metalsmiths/Blacksmiths, Tradesmen, Carpenters, and hopefully not Serfs. Farmers were in charge of supporting kingdoms with food, they often had serfs work around the farm. Farmers had very important role for peasantry. Metalsmiths or Blacksmiths had to make their own tools before making others things, they also supported farmers, carpenters, and tradesmen with their tools.
